BOOTMGR is missing. vista preinstalled on computer.

by fireblade42 - 2/2/13 2:54 PM

I brought my computer over to my friends house yesterday. played it, worked fine, packed it up, drove home. Was too lazy to take it out of the car at 2am last night so i left it till this morning. it got to around freezing last night in maryland. Now, i just took it out, and its booting up very oddly. It sometimes boots in a different way, but generally it starts up, goes to that temporary blue screen with the HP logo (its an HP pavillion)and the 4 different F11,12,etc keys. then it goes to the Microsoft loading screen with the broken-up green bar at the bottom showing its loading the OS. BUT THEN it goes to a black screen telling me the software failed to load, and to select windows recovery, or start up normally. starting up normally brings me to a black screen of nothing but i can move the mouse around. windows recovery took 30 min to load up but it finally did.

I clicked on system recovery, i thought it was the system restore thing where it restores your computer to a certain earlier point in time, but it was the one where it formats your hard drive and puts it back to its original factory condition. not what i wanted to do as i stared at the screen and cant cancel a thing. at that moment this pops up during the restore

Error 0x4001001300001002
if this issue continues, contact HP support.

ever since that error popped up, it still loads to the blue screen with HP where i can choose those F keys, but after that it goes to a black screen telling me the BOOTMGR is missing and to control alt del to restart. and it becomes a vicious cycle. i should note that i can still run a system diagnostics check, and it says my hard drive and all other systems are ok.

I google searched BOOTMGR is missing and i think i need the vista cd to do a system restore. this is a problem since i ordered the computer from dell 5 years ago and it came with vista preinstalled. How do i fix this problem all i did was leave it in my trunk all night and now when i turn it on i have to deal with this stupid crap. it was in my nightmares that the computer wouldn't work the next morning after taking it out of the car but for that to actually happen. just. wow. im so angry. this is so stupid

i have a HP Pavillion running vista, 64 bit
