Win 7 HP Laptop Windows Constantly Restarts

Win 7 HP laptop recently started a repetitious restart and would only be successful in safe mode. Starting normal it came up once and seemed to want to function properly. Then i got a blue screen error. I did a new install using the onboard install [not from discs]. The unit seemed very stable but during some of the updates i got the blue screen again. The laptop has seen very few hous of use and has always performed flawlessly. do i have a failing hard drive or maybe driver issues?

Without the model number I can't see if this is one of the known models with issues. For example all those laptops with 8600m video are dropping like flies.

Since you were able to restore the OS it could be the usual maintenance. That is, you perform the deep cleaning you read about (canned air) and if that isn't enough you proceed to heat sink compound replacement. If that fails you usually swap the motherboard if you didn't encounter signs of bad ram or hard drives.

Problen Solved For Now

I was able to do a bios update and that seemed to be the solution. Windows has not restarted on it's own since the bios update. any suggestions for preventative maintenance as it seems this model and many other HP laptops fail from defective mother boards?
