monitor is stuck in power saving mode

Dell Windows Vista Home Basic 08. Cannot get the monitor off power saving mode. I can hear a beeping noise coming frim the tower. Disconnected power cords and reconnected. Moving the mouse and pressing any keys on keyboard doesnt help.

If the current monitor is bad, swapping in a different, good monitor might fix the issue. If that works, then you simply replace the old monitor. Of course, exchanging old cabling with other cabling or swapping from DVI to VGA jacks is another option worth testing but unfortunately, you've not told us which type of monitor, jacks, or cabling you're using....

I have a dell monitor and a dell insperon 531. I do not know how to read jacks. It is a desktop computer.

Try Borrowing Someone's Monitor...

...and plug it in to the same cabling.. Like Kees stated.. If the borrowed monitor works fine after connecting to your computer, you know the problem is with your monitor and it needs to be replaced.

The common cause of a monitor in power saving mode is a dead videocard. Just try another monitor.
- If that doesn't work either, replace the videocard inside the desktop. Not uncommon with a 5-year old machine.
- If that works, you've solved your issue.

First I bought a battery as, I read it here regarding a similar issue. I changed that out it did not fix anything. Not to mention the tower was beeping as well. I looked up the manual for my computer to figure out the troubleshooting for beeps. It said for the number of beeps I had (2 beeps) that it was the memory and to take out the pairs of memory card and replace them. I did that and rebooted the computer and everthing booted up. However, everythime now when it boots the black start up screen appears with the white lettering that says start windows normally, or start windows in safe mode. If its not one thing its another.
