Can't Delete OLD PHOTOS From Email History

I am using Windows 7+Yahoo Mail. At the very bottom left, next to the area where you create a Yahoo email, there is a 'button' which displays all the photos which have been attached to prior emails.
Clicking on a photo gives a removal option. I have tried this, the photo temporarily deletes, but does not go to the recycle bin as it should.
When I go back to the old email photos, it is back again and not removed. Maybe I'm doing something incorrectly, or this isn't the proper way to remove these hundreds of photos that have been building up for a few years.
I hope someone can help me with this problem! Thanks!

put photos on your computer unless you choose to download them. Have you delete the mail in question?

THANX for your help! I forgot all about deleting the EMAIL first, so when I clicked delete on the photos, of course they would not delete! Thank you so much! Mike

So, besides Email where else in the system have you looked for the photos? Downloads, Documents, Pictures???
