Needed to operate External HD SATA 3.5>USB...AC power?

Howdy i have a dead HP Presario m2000 with hard drives i'd like to empty> before i buy another wrong connector
would you let me know the title of such a unit and>
does it need
1- An AC power assist
2- Twin USB plugs [haven't seen one long enough to reach both sides of new laptop]

3.5 inch drives take a more more power than 2 USB ports.

You'll want one of those many thousand powered cases. I see them from about 20 to over 100 bucks. I'd forget USB power for this round.

a bit more power.

Rather than getting an external enclosure (unless I intend to keep the drive in it) I much prefer one of the really handy kits available that simply allow you to connect the drive to USB cable and an external power adapter. eBay sells lots of them and they are pretty inexpensive. Here is a link to one kit and you can locate many others by searching eBay for the word combination - sata ide usb
