Can not install Vista Service Pack 1 after restore:

I have a Gateway Laptop Model P-6831 FX. I wiped my hardrive clean. I put in the Microsoft Windows Vista" Home Premium 32- Bit Operating System Disc. That went in okay, then I installed the drivers on a Disc I made. I downloaded most of the updates, but when I went to install Vista Service Pack 1, it would not install. I even download from Microsoft Web site but it would download but install. It keep coming up when I check for Windows Updates, but when I go to install it will not. Does anybody have an answer for this problem? Thanks

What happens when you try to install? Does it boot from the DVD? Do you get an error message? If so, please post the message. Does it just do nothing or does it go through a few screens and hang? More details needed.

Vista Service Pack 1

When I check for windows update, service pack 1 shows up to download and install. When it downloads and installs it only take about 2 minutes. When I check to see if installed my laptop shows it did not update. I go and check for updates again , Vista Service Pack 1 shows up again to download the pack still will not install. I do not get a error message. Take Care! Paul

Vista updates

May I suggest you d/l the Vista update itself rather using the update service. Locate the update KB# in the update service listing, note it down and then search for it. MS does provide this KB# so you manually launch it from your PC directly from file itself. While looking for the KB#, find other articles that may provide for Vista SP1 failure to install.
