Reactivation of Microsoft OS

I know that if you have a retail version of a Microsoft OS that you are allowed up to 5 reactivations if you should need to because of rebuilds on your computer. I have a retail version of XP that was used on a computer that no longer exits. I tore it apart kept some parts and trashed the rest. Can I use this software in another computer that has a different motherboard, etc?
