At the same time, you have to figure that someone pretty high up in the food chain at Apple signed off on that going out, and I doubt it was just that guy. Plus, the way Apple's culture is set up, it'll just be meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
It is one of the more amusing aspects of the business world... Small companies are nimble enough to be able to come up with fantastic ideas, but they don't have the resources necessary to execute them on a large scale. Large companies have the resources, but are about as graceful as an aircraft carrier when it comes to changing course.
