Recently my Dell XPS 625 with Windows 7 Ultimate has been doing two things:
1. It takes a long time to wake up from sleep state (5-10) minutes, at the end of which time the monitor flashes for a minute with the Dell logo, and then everything is fine.
2. When waking the monitor, the monitor flashes for 10 seconds or so with the Dell logo, and then everything is fine.
When the monitor flashes, it goes from black to Dell logo on the screen about once a second and the power button (which indicates a signal from the computer) goes off and on. (It is an old monitor and the power button is stuck permanently on.)
I installed a second HD recently. I don't think this started at the same time, but I could be wrong. There have been no other recent changes to my setup. The problem seems to be getting worse and worse as the computer seems to take longer to wake up each time. I have now disabled sleep mode, but it goes to sleep anyway sometimes.
I'm not sure where to start. Could this be purely a monitor problem? (I don't have another monitor to test it with.) I.e. can the monitor prevent the computer from waking quickly? Once it wakes up, there are no further problems. I'm not sure where to start on troubleshooting this. The warranty on the computer just expired. Any ideas?
