Can't connect to my LAN, please help ASAP!!!

After reformatting my mother's laptop, I discovered that I needed to install specific drivers for the notebook (chipset, video, & wireless LAN). After installing said drivers, I clicked on the network icon on the bottom right-hand side of the task bar, my wireless router appears. I click connect under it and then I have to type in an 8-digit pin from the router label and I proceed as needed. However, moments later it says that "Connection to the network was unsuccessful. Windows can't get the network settings from the router."
I've hit a wall. I do not know what else I should do. The brand name of my router is "Belkin N Wireless" and my mother's computer is a Lenovo SL410 if that aids in solving my problem. Please no ******** answers or smartass remarks. If anyone could give me some advice/assistance I would greatly appreciate it. I need help in solving this problem ASAP!!
