Clarification request: Crackling sound

Is this noise coming through the speakers? Is the sound evident with the sound turned off? If the sound persists with the sound turned off it is likely a fan or possibly the HDD in either case you might want to have a tech give it a look.

it is not through the speakers and no the sound is not there when turned off only when on and i might have explained the right clarification near the bottom of the posts.

What is the current state of the laptop now? Does it function properly or is it worse? Are there important documents on it that you can retrieve and don't want to lose? If so, you might want to do that ASAP. It could well be that your best option, if you have the necessary media or service partition, is to restore the laptop to how it came from the factory.

Virus protection

If in fact you're under virus attack, then use some of your AV protection in order to prevent this. If none, then get a freebie one, I use AVAST and allow it to scan and also say yes to a boot scan. I suggest you upon any AV protection, update it to the latest protection level and then run the pgm. if your brother tends to do risky things, remove the laptop and put your acct. into a secure or locked mode. So no one can use it w/o your approval. -OR- have your brother create an acct. for his use, separate from yours, etc.. You'll still need AV protection so get it active, etc. and use it. Explain the operation because it does no good if your brother continues to allow something to get through when it shouldn't just because he likes what he finds maybe a come-on for later virus attack. Understand all this, teen or not because the laptop will become useless until corrective action is later done which is time and effort better spend elsewhere. I wish this was better news but from what you have mentioned this maybe the only course you need to d o of follow as time goes on.

As for noise, it maybe a "annoying one or an virus action to make you worry. -OR- it nothing. Then again, it's one of things someone has to hear in order to determine. But, for now if everything runs OK, then consider checking the audio/media setting aren't of whack.

thanks for the advice and my parents credit card information is on there my brother thinks its ok, but ill try and get it through his head that this is important. Also the crackling noise is not from the audio. It came directly from the inside. I sounded like the type of crackling that would be at a campfire. I already knew most of this though. Is there anyway to fix this yourself because me, my brother, and my parents have no money. We are almost completely broke. If you have anymore info could you tell me?

Follow noise

When it comers to noise, you have to follow your ear. try to pinpoint it and take the necessary action. As i said, its one of those things you have to hear in order to find it. Since, a laptop is to be running fairly silent it suggests any moving part. Or, it could be as i stated an audio noise generated to confuse the issue. If this was part breaking down, it would already make itself known. However, a laptop made of plastic can also be source of noise in some way. Be sure it isn't your CD drive as well when it turns-ON yet no disc present some drives can be noisy, so open and close it to check, maybe a blank disc as well.

Willy I wonder if he just doesn't need to grab a can of air and blow the dust out? Yeah my guess is a fan #1 then possibly HDD or as you suggested DVD drive, since it makes the noise on both batt and A/C power.

You hadn't open the laptop and cleaned it yet? Well, it probably now a good course of action. Besides the cleaning you can inspect and verify even if manually the movement of any seen fans. Do take care and don't simply "weeeee" the fans like crazy, block fan down and blow out any dust bunnies.
