Hi,I replaced the button battery on the motherboard and now it wont boot no bios and nothing on the screen.Computer is Acer Aspire M3100,MB RS690M03,2GB RAM,Vista Premium. The powersupply starts then stops straight away but if I move the little plastic thingo to clear the cmos then turn it on the P/S stays on and the dvd drive flashes a light but there are no beeps or anything? I have tried different P/Ss,tried the old battery again, reseated everything & generally checked things out.I had a problem with the M/B about a year ago with the capacitors bulging next to the CPU,They where replaced & its been OK till now .Any help would be appreciated. regards,Ross.

Did you check for new bad caps? I'm assuming not all caps were replaced, just the obviously bad ones. P/S is the Power Supply Unit (PSU)? and that also has capacitors, and they are known to go bad too. If different PSU does not have same or greater power rating as original, then that will fail to work also.

The PSU was 250watts I replaced it with 420 watts PSU,I checked the rest of the caps with a capacitor meter and they all came up good? Do you think it could be the HDD or anything else that I may have overlooked?How much would I be looking at for a new MB?

Make sure the battery doesn't have a "plastic protection tab" that prevents it from draining while packaged. Further, that when its installed, that full contact is present when in its socket, bent arm for true pressure contact. Alas, be sure the battery actually has a charge.

If all does seem to correct it, then recheck your PC for other issues. Check and verify everything else where its suppose to be, reseat connections, etc.. Provided evrything worked before and only a bttery change, then you retrace your steps.

No joy new motherboard

Well it looks like I have done everything I can to fix this? It must be a capacitor or two that are measuring up OK but failing under load,so it looks like a new M/B coming up. I'm not going to replace all the caps because they are a ******** of things to solder in. Thanks for taking the trouble to help me fellas I really do appreciate it.
