CMOS Battery Issue and Start Up Problems

by gamergurl70 - 7/26/12 7:14 PM

Got computer that was working fine, with XP.

Then tried to install 2700 DDR RAM. I found out after the fact that it is not usable, and tried to put the old RAM back and leave it at that. But after trying to turn it on, it wouln't display anymore (wouldn't show up on either monitor I used). So I tried resetting the CMOS, by unplugging the computer and taking it out, waiting 6 seconds and putting it back in.

Then it got worse: after doing that it no longer turned on for more than half a second. So now hitting power button will make it turn on, and CPU fan will spin for about half a second and the computer will turn off again. It does this with CMOS in or with no CMOS battery in. No beeps, or post.

Tested PSU with paperclip, it works. Taking out the RAM results in the 'No RAM' beeps, computer will stay on until turned off.
