Computer help forum: Laptop won't turn on

I tried the generic reset (it's the thing I was referring to in my original post I wasn't sure what it was called).

As for canned air, I have not used it in many months. Based on the title of your post I'm guessing I'll have to take it in for repair... Thank you anyways!

I've seen many things such as the generic reset (battery out, press some button) as well as pulling out the ram, HDD and ODD. But I can't guess all that you tried. It's your discussion, please don't shortchange yourself.

The generic reset was the only thing I tried. I'm not really sure how to go about the other things you mentioned.

Another thing that might be worth a mention is the battery has had a red x on it when my computer was on and it said it may need replacing. I didn't think too much of it since the laptop still worked with the charger in though.

We know that an old battery can pull more power and fry the charger or charging circuits on the mainboard. The folk that are new to laptops may leave the battery in and learn that lesson the hard way.

It's like driving with the check engine light on. Could be bad news.

Remove the battery, do the reset again and leave the battery out to test again.

I have attempted the reset again this time leaving the battery out. There is still no result. I think the laptop is not receiving any power because normally when I plug in my charger there's a blue light that comes up which lets me know it's connected. However, now there is nothing. The laptop just stays off.

By now I would have used a Volt Meter on the charger to see if it still works. These lights are never a sure thing and why I use a Volt Meter.

Then again, you could go for a new charger and hope for the best. If the battery is being called bad, then be sure you don't use that!

In regards to the volt meter I'm not sure if we have one but I'll look around. My sibling has an acer laptop as well so I tried the generic reset and then used her charger to no luck. I was hoping to get it on to retrieve sensitive files that I do not want to lose before taking it in for repair but I'm guessing that won't be very likely. Thank you for all the help you are giving!
