Multiple HDD's dying - Grinding at startup - NEED HELP!

So here's the situation:
I recently bought two identical desktops. After the first two weeks of owning them one started to have the HDD make a horrible grinding noise on startup and them normalize afterwards. About 2 weeks later the second one began doing the same.
I assumed it was a bad batch of HDD's and promptly bought a new one to put this theory to the test. With a new HDD from a new company in hand I installed it in the first computer. It worked fine for about 3 days and then the problem returned. The problem is progressive and all the HDDs eventually die (within about a week of the problem beginning).
So I thought the problem may be due to power fluctuations in the house as the wiring was kind of old. I recently moved to a new house with brand-new wiring and bought two new HDDs. Despite having stable power and two more new HDDs the problem has returned.
At this point we can safely assume that something in the machines is causing the problem and it's not the HDDs themselves.
What should I do? I'm a few hundred dollars invested in this problem and I'd really like to not burn out anymore HDDs on this.
Any ideas would be awesome. I'm willing to replace parts if it's productive and will stop the HDDs from dying.
