How can I fix no sound while streaming media?

Can someone please help me to figure out why I have no sound when streaming media files on the internet? I have sound while playing my music files, CDs, DVDs. I am having trouble listening to audio on Youtube and other websites. I have installed drivers for my sound card, reinstalled Adobe Flash player, and have installed Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome to see if any of these things worked. I did hear some sound that would sometimes fade in and out (I think) when I installed Google Chrome, but checked other websites with Google Chrome and heard nothing. I have since done something to my computer and I cannot hear any streaqming media even on Google Chrome.

What OS? Computer type? Do you get sound through a headset? Need some more information. It could be something as simple as an audio codec. Have you tried downloading and using VLC player?

I have an HP Pavillion model # a6130n with Vista. I am using a headset for sound (different problem), my speakers dont work for my monitor. I dont know anything about a VLC player.

So a headset doesn't work either? And you haven't tried external speakers? Externals would be the first thing to try and VLC player is a downloadable player (free) used by many.
