Computer: Toshiba Satellite L300D laptop

Hi there,

A friend told me her computer was suffering from the My Security Shield virus, so I offered to fix it for her. Getting rid of that virus isn't terribly hard.

I was in safe mode running Malwarebytes, about 20 minutes into a full scan the computer just shut off. Not able to get anything out of it when I press or hold the power button. The laptop was quite hot when I checked, so I let it cool down and tried again, but no luck.

I took the battery out and left the power cable out and tried to boot, just put the battery in and tried, and just the power cable. No luck with any. I also took out the ram and re-arranged it, trying just one stick instead of two. No luck. I have left it with the battery out and will try again tomorrow, but thought I would ask here in the meantime about what I can try!

A lot of the links on Google I looked up stated that lights would flash and the hard drive would make noises, but the one I have with me does neither. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

It's down the page a little with power off, remove power, battery press and hold the button etc.

Hello,

I had tried a generic reset 4 or 5 times before posting. I tried it holding the power button for a minute like you suggested, but no luck.

Are there no things plugged into the USB ports?

Did you check to see if the memory sticks are still plugged in?

Remember that the usual fix is a new board. Why I ask more questions is sometimes the owner will slip up and tell me they dropped the laptop.

Nothing in the USB ports, I checked the memory sticks and plugged them in myself. I did not drop the laptop, I was scanning with Malwarebytes and it turned itself off.

As I see laptops pass the 4 year mark, we don't fix those when it takes a new board. 2 years if it's a gaming laptop.

Unless you get a good price, I'd go shopping.
