screen randomly erupts into static and extreme noise.

Hi all, hoping for a little help

A few weeks ago I was just randomly browsing the internet when all of a sudden my screen went white and started flipping out with static and bars exploding all over the screen and erupted with sound that caused me to have to cover my ears it was so loud. I'm using a VGA cable on my TV, so I don't even know why the sound is going off like it is, but it only happens when I'm on the computer and not playing a gaming system or watching TV. The TV will go black afterwards and than load in the picture again, along with the channel sign.

The day before this started happening I started playing Final Fantasy XIV and it was making my video card run kind of hard. Running a Nvidia GT240 with up to date drivers.

Lemme know if ya'll know what is causing it, and if you need more info.

Such as cleaning the PC like you see at http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-11319_7-6240575-1.html

And if that didn't help did you consider leaving the case cover off and pointing a fan at the machine?

And if that didn't do it, what does the maker of the machine tell you to do?
