Somebody on here (usually R Profitt) sorts out my problems. This is the current one. For the last few days I've had difficulties booting up. I switch on and then get a constant blue revolving wheel but can't open a browser. Sometimes I have to re-boot a few times and it can take me half an hour to get up and running. Even the task manager becomes unresponsive so I have to shut down with the power button. Occasionally Firefox becomes unresponsive when I'm working and I just get stuck until I shut down again out of frustration.
I'm working on a Dell Vostro, using Windows 7 Professional and Firefox 12. I'm meticulous about installing programme updates and running Malware and AntiVirus etc. Ran everything today and nothing nasty was found. I also ran a quick scan with Avast and nothing reported, although I have some files that can't be scanned because they are password protected. According to the Avast forums, this is not a problem and nothing sinister. I also find that when I'm in the throes of starting up Avast treats a couple of programmes as suspicious, isolates them in the sandbox and then reports there is not enough evidence to declare them as malware.
I've been on the Firefox forums and cleared cookies and cache and checked that my plugins are up to date. I don't think I've updated anything recently that could be causing these problems. When Firefox doesn't respond, I have a similar problem with Outlook at the same time.
My laptop is only six months old and I've got more spare memory than used memory. I'm getting frustrated with the time I keep wasting and any help would be appreciated. Also how do I decide which programmes should be disabled on start up?
