Computer help forum: I need help why my free space is going away fast?

The very first thing to do is to find out what files in what folders are either created or growing. Once you know that generally it's much less of a guess and much easier to stop it.

Tools I find useful in this case:
- TreeSize Free from https://www.jam-software.de/treesize_free/ to see the size of all folders
- the detail view of Windows Explorer to see the creation and modification dates of files

So I'm waiting for your results to be able to give more help, if needed.

Just make screenprints or make notes, so you know the size of all folders (no need yet to drill down to subfolders).
Then do the same tomorrow and compare the results. You should see 2 to 3 GB differences. What folders are most affected? Those are the folders with that new or grown files.

Then, do as Bob says: use Windows Explorer to search for big files created the last days in those folders.

Sorry but 21GB is not unheard of for system restore.

But I can't tell how big the HDD is and if that 201GB was free or total disk size.

Remember the System Restore can be set to a percentage of free space so if it's 10 percent than 21GB use would be proper. Some folk would be upset by that but the same person would go down in flames if SR was turned off since they rarely backup.

hello how do I turn off my restore points off then turn it back on. I did not see anything on the window where it says to turn off restore points then how do I turn it back on. oh will I lose my retore pooints I have there right now??

I turned off system restore on both disks and my free space went right back to where theyhave all ways been at 232 Gb's free space now. and when i turn both ***** back on and made a new restore point the free space just dropped to 229Bb's. And thanks for the other guy who had a good Idea to free up some space by deleting temp files and extra.... thanks for all the good ideas. I'm a 100% disabled Vet. and I just know enough about computers to hurt my self and the computer LOL. Take care.

I never saw that option tab. I used that tab a saw where it says to delete system restore points. man I had 40 Gbs of store back ups. i never knew to delete all that Bb data fro each retore it did for a long time. now it went from 180Gb's to 229Gb's where it should be. I will use that option every once in a while then make a new restore point after getting rid of all the old restore points.
Oh I have a problem maybe you can help me with. even though I had all that back up data when I need to use a restore point, when it finished it would always say it could not be done and I would still be stuck at the problem I was having and just had to put up with not having my computer not to do a restore point when I need it to?? do you have any thoughts why I can finish system restore it keeps saying error can't comlite the program you wanted to do??
