How do I remove 'Metropolitan police virus'?

I need help getting the 'Metropolitan police' virus off my computer (which is a Dell Inspiron Mini).

This virus locks down my computer, however, as it takes a second to start up I am able to hit ctrl, alt + delete and remove the virus temporarily. However, if I restart my computer, or shut it down and open it up later, the virus always comes back when I log in.

Obviously I do not want to have to race to press ctrl, alt +delete every time I log in, so can anyone help me get rid of this virus? It would be much appreciated!!

if you ran your antivirus in Safe Mode. Did you try that?

Yes, if I run my computer in safe mode the virus does not appear.

My antivirus won't open in safe mode, although the virus does not appear in safe mode either. I think I may have solved it though, is there a way to mark this post as answered now?

Yeah of course, sorry guys!

I pressed f8 at start up and loaded my computer up in safe mode with command prompt. I then typed in 'explorer' into the command prompt window and my start up menu appeared.

From this, I opened 'MSconfig' before hitting the 'start up' tab. In this tab there was a suspicious file, which ony had numbers in it and the source of it was unknown. I unticked the box which means it doesn't pop up when you start your computer, then restarted the laptop in regular mode.

This then allowed me to run my antivirus scan in standard mode which took care of any remains of the virus!

Best of luck to anyone facing the same problem. Hope this helps.
