Windows Shell Common Dll has stopped working

I'll try to be as specific as i can.
Im running windows 8 consumer preview (build 8250).I decided to install some drivers; the sound drivers worked perfectly, but with the mouse driver, appeared to work until i tried to go to settings, it gave me the message above.(everything worked before, i just wanted multitouch gesture support. cant really get them without enabling them in the settings.) so i tried installing the drivers from my windows 7 partition, still the same problem. any help? (im using an acer aspire 5733, tryin to install elan drivers if that helps some.)

Since there is no known support for that OS yet.

You should try going back to what worked or the OS that came with the machine.

I had the same problem with both Consumer Preview and now with Release Preview. I'm using acer aspire timelinex 3830T, on acer.com for my model (and I also checked for yours, it's the same) there are drivers for elantech touchpad version 8.0.6.0 , so what I did, I looked for drivers for different model, I just randomly chose Aspire V5-471, and there was Elantech touchpad driver version 10.6.9.8, I've downloaded it, installed and now everything works just fine

I've got the same laptop (Acer 5733z) and I'm having the same issue. The "solution" visombre posted is not a solution. Config apps does work but those drivers doesn't have an option for multitouch gesture and rotation does not work either. I tried installing Synaptics drivers but touchpad is not detected, it detects the Mouse instead.

I'm running Windows 8 RTM, so it appears it's gonna be like this in the final version. Please give us support!!!
