Computer help forum: Video Card wont power on - No Signal to Monitor

I thought the same thing. If you are talking physically reset the card, as in unplug everything and put it back in, I've tried it two or three times. Another weird side effect of all of this is that once the computer powers on, I can't use the power button to turn it back off. I have to either yank the cord or flip the switch on the power supply. Dunno if that helps at all.

So just to clarify, you are sure that the computer is booting into the OS because you can see the HDD activity and maybe even hear the Windows boot sound from the speakers after a suitable period of time has passed? Because it SOUNDS like you have a pre-POST failure, but I want to make sure before anyone (including myself) starts going down that road just to have you later drop some little nugget of information that sends things off in an entirely different direction.

It does not boot, that I know of. Everything turns on, but I get nothing. No noises from the speakers indicating a boot of windows. Everything powers up except the GFX card and then it just sits in a frozen state I guess you could say.

In that case, you have a pre-POST failure. So take EVERYTHING out that you do not need to get the unit to POST. So just one RAM module, the CPU, and that's basically it. If it POSTs after that, then slowly add things back in, testing each time. If it's still not POSTing, then it would start to sound like you may have damaged the CPU and/or motherboard.

Well ZR, here's the results. Upon turning the PC on, I can definitely hear the HDD spinning and power up. I however, I do not hear any beeps from the MB. Not even when the RAM sticks are removed.

My power supply is fairly new (3 months ago I replaced my old one when it died), and puts out more than enough power for what my system requires. The rest of the system also powers up, so do you think we would could narrow the problem down to the motherboard..?

First try to reset the bios .... (usualy jumper is near mb battery)
Place the jumper from position 1 and 2 to position 2 and 3 and then put it back to 1 and 2
You can find detailed explanation on where the jumper is and how to reset the bios in your motherboard manual.

Do not do this until you pulled out power cord!!!


Then start computer normaly
