Internet Drops When Webcam Connected

Hello,
I was wondering if somebody to could help me.
I have a Compaq Presario CQ61 on Windows 7.
Since about Christmas time, whenever I press the 'Videocall ____' on Skype or Windows Live Messenger, my webcam freezes and then my internet disconnects. It usually goes from 5 bars to 2 bars and then it goes to the red cross where I cannot connect to the internet.
I have restarted my Internet when this has happened and restarted my laptop.
I don't know how to fix this problem.
Any help will be appreciated.

Have you tried hooking it up hardwire? Assuming you are using wireless connection off of a router/gateway.

I've tried connecting it to the router with an Ethenet cable however my connection still drops.

Your wireless connection drops from 5 bars to 2 bars, then to a red cross. But what happens with your wired connection?

Is it a built-in webcam? Or a usb-connected external one?
