Sorry this is a little long, but I want to describe the whole situation.

It started when a program (just a game, nothing system related) would not work properly, so I tried to uninstall it. The windows uninstaller would not come up at all, so eventually I tried deleting the games key files manually to force an update, but then recycler just sat there spinning doing nothing. So I tried to shutdown and restart explorer to get rid of it (which has worked in the past) but this just locked up task manager. I even tried using programs like shredder to get rid of the desired files. This whole incident has made me realize that I am unable to uninstall ANY programs, and whenever I try, things just keep locking up. So I figure I must have a really nasty virus screwing with my system and start up the scanner (I use Avira). 20 minutes later I realize that the scanner is just sitting there not scanning files, so I try to download spybot and malware bytes (the two top rated spyware/malware programs on cnet) and they wont install. I am now unable to install or uninstall ANYthing whatsoever. I can still run normal stuff like firefox and games and whatnot, but I cannot do anything important to fix the system. So I decide to try a system restore, but even that wont come up at all. I never get any kind of error messages, things just either spin idly, or dont start at all. I have gotten a blue screen with no specific error code a few times over the last month or so.

Yes I am running things in admin mode, and yes all my drivers are up to date. I have no restore disks of any kind, they did not come with the laptop.

System specs:
Acer Aspire 5750-6438
Win7
Intel i5 2.3ghz
Intel HD Graphics 3000
4 GB DDR3 memory

Sometime when nothing seems to run right, I use UBCD and use its pgms. to help eliminate malware and other issues. Burn it and and it becomes bootable from .ISO file. Insert and boot from it into a Linux OS and then access pgms. to help resolve your problems.

Well, I finally managed to get the malware tools I needed installed and running, but I still cannot access any of the admin tools like UAC, or the right click -> run as admin command, and the scans only found a couple minor items. So I am still stuck.

Another forum had me run several other uber-programs, including Combo fixer, and that one worked! I dont know exactly wtf it did, but everything is working now!

I know these pests have reached a point of being difficult to remove. I can only hope we continue to be so lucky to avoid reloading the OS.

Can you boot to safe mode? If you can, from a clean computer, load Malwarebytes onto a flash drive, load to the sick system in Safe Mode and give that a try.

I suggest you visit the spyware, virus and security forum here for any other pgms. to use and post your results as well for further help.

You can boot into safemode and then try using whatever malware scanner and allow it to run. You can also boot into safemode "with networking" to allow access to CDs and flashdrives for pgms. gotten from them as well. Now, while no restore discs came with your Acer PC, it does offer some restore creation for self-made discs. That's too late now as you maybe helping recreate the malware if present to return. However, once the PC is running 100% you can generate them, then. Acer does offer recovery discs for small cost, thus order from them if in stock for your model#.

Next, you didn't mention how you got that game causing all problems. Under typical installs it shouldn't be causing all these issues. So beware of your source of any future games. Last, check to see if your system restore(points) from the OS actually is enabled. Under win7, in the control panel you can check that. Also, the OS provides a restore/backup NOT the immediate restore point feature but a true backup/restore from discs. You can also if you have a friend's PC generate a "repair disc" of the same win7 type(32 or 64-bit) to help also in returning some normal function back. This is the same function if you have the true restore(recovery) discs as well. Hopefully that can return possible missing OS files and/or be kept for later use when needed.

The thing is that I cannot instal any new programs. I know exactly what I would be downloading if I could that would take care of ANYthing on my machine (namely spybot SD and malwarebytes), but that is not an option. The game itself is not the cause (it was spore through origin), it just made me aware of the problem.

I did not know you could make your own restore disks. Why dont the stores tell you that?

Norton, Kap and other suites break system restore. I know you didn't know this but now you know, can you share which suite is installed?

It seems unlikely that it is it, as I have been using Avira with no problems since I got the computer a couple months ago. I am now suddenly unable to install or uninstall any programs at all, and I just found out that I cannot access the Services window, and if I try it locks up my Start menu.

What more information do you need?

I managed to succesfully shutdown properly after another instal lockup, and this time at the last second before shutdown, it came up with an error window that said "too many files are using 16 bit programs."

Now that I had that message finally pop up, I was able to do a little more research and have found that I am having the VERY common problem with consent.exe locking up. I have confirmed that this process is present whenever I have the problem, however, I am unable to terminate it or what ever installer process is running. There does not seem to be a fix for this problem, do you guys know anything about it?

Let's move to bootable antivirus next. Or saving your files should be first, then the bootable antivirus.
