Power Supply Tolerance

I was having some issues with my computer rebooting and turning off yesterday without any blue screen errors and after some testing I decided it was the power supply so I downloaded HW monitor to see what my voltages were at.

My +12v rail is pretty contant at 12.74v which is a little out of the 5% tolerance

My -12v rail is constant around -6.2v which I would assume is well out side of the tolerance.

Would these kind of voltages be causing my computer to reboot or turn off? Should I buy a new, more reliable psu. I'm running windows 7 with a powercolor 500w psu.

I would myself, particularly because that 5% variance is really not meant to be sustained. It's there on the off chance that something might periodically draw a little extra power on a short-term basis. If you're consistently pushing the limits of that, and then some other component needs a short burst of extra power, you will likely trip a cutout circuit designed to prevent fun things like electrical fires, or just having a big puff of blue-black smoke billow out from the power supply and take who knows what else with it.

Did you need to discuss the legacy -12V line? We could waste time on that or move to what's in this PC.

The official +12V variation is 10%

I read debate if the PSU is up to the task.

Here I would never try that since with the split rail I would have to work hard to be sure the PSU is balanced.

amd radeon hd 6700 gpu

Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333

I prime95 for a few hours with no problems, I ran memtest86 through 2 passes with no errors but the system did crash a couple times before I managed to get two passes. I ran furmark for a couple hours no problems. Still the computer will sometimes shut off and will not turn back on for a minute or two after pressing the power button. Temps are all fine, cpu max is 45C and gpu max is ~65C

Is it normal for the -12v to bo so high? If its not the psu what else could it be?
