My windows freezing with new RAM

I've bought 2 gigs of ram (ddr2).
I've replaced the 512 stick with this new one. BUT my Windows XP loading screen takes a long time and it freezes (during the loading screen).

I've tried it with my backup system (another XP) it works fine. But I need to make it work with my primary system.
In safe mode it works, but not in normal mode.

So any ideas how to make my new ram work without reinstalling my system?

My specs if needed:
Intel core 2 duo e4500 2,2 ghz
one stick 1gb ram, one stick 512 ram (this would be replaced with the 2 gb)
Windows XP SP3 (because I hate win7 and I don't need it)

That XP does work but you have more than one XP installed.

There is NO STEP BY STEP for this one. Try MSCONFIG and disable all you can and retest.

system.......like mfg, series and model number or if a clone, the MB Mfg name, series and model number.
Without that....further in the dark than you.
