Computer help forum: Why has my speakers/microphone started to Screach

Thanks for that. The screeching sound has almost gone but the sound on my music is at full volume, and this is not very loud and it now sounds funny, ie warbly and distorted.

You said you have "Realtek" speakers. I presume these are externals and have their own volume control. Thus, you could possibly over drive them depending on to what output plug they were connected. This could account for distorted sound. External speakers being louder would also add to feedback if they were close to your laptop. I'm now thinking I'm all wrong and that you're talking about having Realtek audio as your laptop's sound system and you're talking about internal speakers. They'd not necessarily have a brand name. Could we ask if you are talking about a problem with both the internal mic and speakers?

I am talking about a problem with both the internal mic and speakers. I do have Realtek audio as my laptop's sound system and yes i'm talking about my internal speakers.

external speaker system to see if the audio is better? I looked up that laptop and I do see complaints about the speaker quality. Running such things at higher volumes can cause their cones and voice coils to come apart. You can also get sympathetic vibration from other plastic or fiber parts on the inside. I can't tell without hearing the noise myself but the obvious thing to try is to reduce the volume or try some external speakers. If the externals produce clean sound, the internals are probably damaged.

Thanks for that. I am 65 so I don't have it loud anyway, lol. and rather than buy external speakers I may try and get a repair from Acer as I only bought this in January of this year.
