Hi
I'm giving my old laptop to my brother so I reinstalled the OS (from the recovery disk) and then set to wipe the free space using File shredder (using the secure earsing algorithm with 7 passes option).
This ran and I thought I would test the results (luckily I did). I used Recuva to do this.
First I ran it to see if it found any pictures/graphics. It cam back with files found but when I tried to open some of the files I couldn't open them (reported as damaged).
I then ran Recuva again this time looking for Office files (excel and word for example) - Recova found several files that I was able to open and browse.
Surely I shouldn't have been able to view any files after such a involved wipe process?
Did I do anything wrong or is File Shredder a lemon?
Thanks
Tom
