Thanks for the tips, no floppy disk only CD Rom, but ive not tested the cmos battery, all i did was jumper the setting, ok i will test the battery, yes it is a 2032 coin cell, last thing i can think of.

Ok Ive tested the cmos battery, its exactly 3.0 volts, so that tested i can only come to one conclusion, some thing Ive forgot to mention.
The VGA Socket has been slightly bent, but on connection the monitor see's it IE the no signal on the monitor goes off the monitor that is, but no green light on boot up just yellow standby , just no display, i thought it would still boot if this socket is damaged so long as there is no shorting of termination pins in the socket, surely it should boot still.

This was a recent purchase, in prepurchase pictures one in particular shows a screen with the OS up and running, but a slight lean towards a purple hue / tint in the colour on the screen, i can only concluded its a graphics problem, but one little thing niggling at me, why no hdd activity or its light on the front of the unit, only spin up, i really think i could be fault finding forever, its probably easier to replace the mobo and cpu altogether.

No graphics device does result in a beep code. Since these are not standard across all BIOS manufacturers, we need to look to them for what the beeps mean. I saw the problem a lot with older graphics cars with no way to lock in inboard side of the connector. With these older cards, the VGA plug and cable could exert enough force to slightly tilt the card in the socket. Result=beeps and no POST. Sometimes chassis parts and the MB don't align well. If your video card is being pushed or pulled by misalignment, I'd remove the card and try loosening all the MB screws until it can slide around just a bit. Plug the card back in so it's nice and stable and re-tighten the screws.

I might be on to some thing, but there is little i can do about it.

The mobo is from a Compaq Ipaq legacy free machine, there is no PCI , AGP, or any other reservation for a graphics card, its all on the mobo , these machines where designed for business, not really end user home use, but there dirt cheap run well on Linux and great for the kids learning, Ive got three, two run the other is this problem, so it looks like second user mobo at least, but thanks for looking in.
