Computer help forum: Computer halting/lagging/stuttering?

I don't have any protection on the computer aside from MS Security. I downloaded spybot when the issue started to clear up any viruses or whatnot.

The install was not a supplied image.

So you read the supplied link to discover that Spybot was part of the issue there.

As Spybot is not an antivirus, and it causes issues, why keep it?

I saw that spybot is a problem, yes. As I installed it after the problem began I don't see it causing my issue. I will uninstall promptly.

If I wanted my machine to be as fast as possible, I would not enable that.

SNMPTRAP is odd. Why is that running?

I ... don't know what the WMP server is or how to deactivate that. Likewise with SNMPTRAP.

1. You could research what and how to disable with Google. I can't know why you have those items.

2. The 9500 video card is not one of the hungry cards. While I like bigger PSUs whenever possible unless I put this system on a Watt meter I would not change this one.

3. Not so much an idea but since you claim there is no antivirus there are too many other pests that will crawl onto the machine. PLEASE TAKE GRIF's ADVICE and my advice on item 4.

I've been using this 9500 GT for 2-3 years without an issue ... but your response is interesting.

I've never replaced a PSU before and it shows no signs of failing, however I am willing to try a new one. It seems simple enough to replace but I'm unsure. Are they all basically the same in terms of connections or is there something specific I should be looking for?

While this is not the exact page I was looking for, it has manuals available (I do not have Adobe Reader installed, so cannot check that) and live support or questions you can post re your card.

To replace your psu should you decide to, after you follow advice given above, and have ruled out malware or SNMPTRAP running as the cause, then and only then would I replace the psu.

You need to open the case, and look to see what connectors you have as the original installation, and replace the psu with the same number of connectors. You can google your manufacturer for the type and number of connectors your original psu came with, and then choose to replace with the same identical number/type of connectors.

If your system is fixed by running the programs Grif provides, then no need to go any further.

Do you have an active resident antivirus running on your system? (Resident active means the antivirus program protects your system in real-time against threats, and you do not need to run a manual scan to find malware under normal circumstances.)

I am assuming you do not have two antivirus programs running at the same time, or else that would have shown up in the listing you provided above.

It happens more often than one would think, that the psu needs to be upgraded when installing a newer video graphics card.
