Why do I get 'This website is currently unavailable'?

Okay, here is my problem:

My Dell Inspiron 1720 is about 4 years old. Over the last few month I have started getting this weird problem where at some point I can't access any sites anymore. It just says "This website is currently unavailable."

I don't seem to have a virus (ran several virus scans). It does not depend on one website, it just effects all. It does not matter which browers I use (have tried Chrome, I-net explorer, Firefox, Safari). It also does not have anything to do with anyother of my wifi stuff (modem or whatever that thing is called) because it is totally locational independent. It has happened at home, at friends places and at public places.

What I usually end up doing, since I am a junkie and can't live without my internet, is that I use this little switch thingy on the side of my laptop which turns my wifi off, then I turn it back on again. The problem goes away for 5 seconds and then it starts up again. The strange thing is that is not always like this is just randomly starts at some point. Usually starts by not being able to load websites fully.

Is my computer just old and this is a normal problem that I have to start dealing with and then just eventually get a new PC or is there something that I could do to make it go away?

Fairly Common When the Wireless Adapter Is Failing

For most such computers, we find an inexpensive USB wireless dongle, disable the onboard wireless adapter, then install and use the USB wireless adapter.

And here's one I've has good luck with. On Windows 7, I didn't have to install a driver.

The other guys may be correct, bad hardware but the reason I asked if you had checked your homepage was to see if you had possibly been zapped by a redirect, I have seen this happen too many times to ignore checking the homepage before proceeding to other areas. The guys have a valid point, hardware going South but I still always check just for drill. Good luck!!

Thx guys.
I don't have a homepage, if by that you mean the site that opens when I open my browser. I just have the new tab page or no page at all.
I guess I just have to go with the usb thing, or with a new computer... I already have way too much stuff running external (sound via usb, most of my stored files are on a external) and now this...

Homepage

To get to homepage, CONTROL PANEL, then INTERNET OPTIONS, your homepage should be listed, usually MSN.COM, if you use explorer. If there is nothing shown or there is a bunch of gibberish,click on the window, hit back space on the kybd, type in msn.com, click apply and give it another shot, as I stated in a prior post you might have gotten a redirect that is trying to send you off into the sunset somewhere. Give it a shot, best of luck and all the best for the holidays to you and yours!!
