My laptop screen stretched out. How to fix?

I was playing a game on my laptop and somehow everything on my laptop screen stretched out: the game, my desktop - everything. My icons don't even all fit on my desktop anymore.

I tried changing the resolution but I'm pretty sure that its still set to the resolution it was at before. None of the other resolution settings fixed it either.

I thought maybe I could hold CTRL and scroll on my desktop screen and that might fix it. It made my icons even BIGGER. I tried scrolling the other way to make them smaller again, but it won't work! So now I have two problems!

If anyone knows how to fix this stretched out screen and huge icons on my desktop, I'd really appreciate it.

Missing details but why not System Restore to before?

It was just a few hours ago and since SR (system restore) won't touch our files, it's time to use it.

System restore incomplete

I just tried doing a system restore to yesterday and a week ago. Each time, the laptop restarted but when it was starting up again, system restore said it could not restore to that point and the restoration was incomplete. Now what? sad

Again, very few details to work with. No make, model, OS, etc.

System restore failures plague folk that have Norton installed. Symantac needs to work on that so it pops up and announces it blocked it and how to unblock.

Ahh, I understand now. Sorry...I am running Windows XP on a Toshiba Satellite Pro model U400. I do have Norton installed. Is there any way that I can just turn off Norton so I can do a restore? Or any other tips on how to fix the screen?

I don't understand why I was able to CTRL scroll to make my icons huge, but not the other way to shrink them.

It's the Tamper Protection setting from memory.

Sorry but my opinion is Symantec should fix this to pop up and tell you it's blocked it.
