I'm having problems getting my quad-core system to rip DVD's as fast as my older dual-core system.
quad-core specs:
core2quad Q6600 (G0 rev) std clk @ 2.4GHz
Asus P5Q mobo (recently upgraded to newest BIOS #2209)
2 GB DDR2 PC2-6400 (dual channel mode)
Destination drive (C:)WD5000AAKS-75YGA0 / 500GB / 7200rpm / 16MB cache / SATA II (connected to a SATA I port) 54% freespace
O/S: Win 7 Home premium 64bit
DVD Burner specs:
Samsung / TSSTcorp SH-S222L (IDE interface)
DVD 16x (read)
With this setup I'm using the following software for my personal DVD backup's: DVDFab 8 (ver. 8.0.8.5) to make a full copy (DVD9, no compression) of DVD movie "The Kings Speech" (region 1), a full DVD rip takes approx. 22 minutes.
Here's the kicker. My main computer, where I do my daily websurfing, etc. can rip the same DVD in just under 12 minutes.
My main computer consists of the following.
Pentium dual core E2220 std clk @ 2.40GHz
Asrock 775i65G Mobo2 GB DDR (PC3200) dual channel mode
Destination drive (C:)WD5000AAKS-75YGA0 / 500GB / 7200rpm / 16MB cache / SATA II (connected to a SATA I port) 70% freespace
O/S: Win 7 Home premium 64bit
DVD Burner specs:Sony AW-G170A (IDE interface)
DVD 16x (read)
And then one more wrinkle to the puzzle; thinking the problem maybe old drivers/wrong drivers I downloaded/installed to the quad-core system the newest BIOS that I could find, and also installed what I think are the newest chipset drivers ( compressed file name: Intel_ChipsetInf_V9111014_XPVistaWin7 ); so after installing the chipset drivers and restarting a few times, etc. I was able to do another test DVD rip of the same movie (the kings speech) and this time it completed in 11minutes+.At this point I was very happy that I was able to successfully fix my computer problems, so thinking things were fixed I attempted to rip another DVD...and back to the same old story, it took 20+minutes to complete. This happened only a minute or two after completing an 11 minute rip of the previous DVD.
So, my question is: Is there some software tool, that I can install, that will either tell me what software drivers are out of date and need to be updated; or a software tool that can benchmark my DVD burner, and point out why it's running so slowly?
thanks
