Boot Up Problem

Upon startup before anything else happens (except asking me if I want to press f2 for setup) my aspire one netbook says:

For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller... v1.0.0.5(1/22/09)

check cable connection..!
PXE-E63:error while initializing the NIC
PXE-MOF:exiting intel PXE ROM
No bootable device-insert boot disk and press eny key

I then can't get anthing to happen except for it to repeat itself.
what should i do? This is a Windows XP home edition

Along with this issue when it does rarely boot up I get the blue screen of death involving the Kernal file. Any help would be much appreciated

I'd try a new hard disk. Use your recovery media to put Windows on it (on a netbook, generally an external CD-drive is necessary).

If it's a motherboard error, the new hard disk won't help. Then buy a separate enclosure and you'll have an external disk ready for use.

Sounds like a pretty classic case of the HDD having died. If it attempts booting Windows it kernel panics and BSODs, and most of the time it just can't find the OS on the HDD, so fails over to trying to look for a network boot server.

If the thing's under warranty, why are you here and not somewhere where you can get it FIXED under warranty? Granted Acer REALLY goes out of their way to avoid doing warranty repairs, but for something as simple as a bum HDD, it shouldn't be too difficult to pin them down. Otherwise, any 2.5" SATA HDD should do the trick. You'll have to find some instructions on how to get at the HDD on your system, but it shouldn't be overly difficult.
