Computer doesn't see the disc in the drive.

I have a Ford tech manual on CD that is giving me the hiccups.
It loads (not auto) and everything works, up to the point of actually accessing the information.
At that point it tells me to insert another tech disc.
I talked to the seller (He says he's never had this problem with anyone else.) who sent me two other discs that do the same thing.
I ran the CD on my son's computer and had no problems until I tried accessing the files without the CD in the drive.
Then I got the same response as on my computer.
That tells me my computer is not seeing the disc (It thinks the drive is empty?) for some reason.
"My Computer" shows the disc is there but I can't access the files.
Does anyone know why that might be or have another explanation?
P.S.: It's a brand new CD/DVD player and I can run all sorts of other discs.

Try a lens cleaner.
Replace the unit.

There a toss-it item.
Some will work for years....others for minutes.

There's the possibility that the discs supplied to you are a bad batch. Of course, try using it yet in another PC or several. You can try to use in a home video system, the CD/DVD player if its optioned for that use. if the problem persists, just mention all other discs work but not yours. Things do happen so you maybe at that point where its not your fault but the disc. As for CD files not being w/o disc present that's possible if it needs to authorize such use, in other words copy protection scheme at work here and/or just plain protection.
