Do I need a new monitor?

I recently bought a HP Pavilion Desktop P6744y with Windows7. I am using a monitor which is about two years old.

Icons, screen savers, videos and wall paper on the monitor screen are weak and faded-looking. Videos are blurry. I suspect this older monitor does not have enough resolution to accomodate this new computer. Do you think a new monitor would solve the problem?

Which Monitor And What Screen Resolution Set?

Blurring of items on the screen frequently means you don't have the screen resolution set to the monitor's native resolution.. So what is the native resolution for your monitor and have you tried setting it there?

A two year old monitor might be fine as long as things support it. More info about the monitor would be helpful.
