Problem with Acer Aspire One D250 Netbook Booting.

Upon startup before anything else happens (except asking me if I want to press f2 for setup) my aspire one netbook says:

For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller... v1.0.0.5(1/22/09)

check cable connection..!
PXE-E63:error while initializing the NIC
PXE-MOF:exiting intel PXE ROM
No bootable device-insert boot disk and press eny key

I then can't get anthing to happen except for it to repeat itself.
what should i do? This is a Windows 7 home edition with a 1.66ghz atom processor and 2 gigs of ram. If anything else is needed I am more than willing to answer.

The BIOS is set to boot from a network, and it can't find one. So press f2 to go into the setup (as invited) and check the boot sequence. For a normal boot, it should be set to hard disk as first item, not the network.

If it is already set to boot from the hard disk, and you still get this message, something is seriously wrong with the hard disk. The things to try (in this sequence):
1. Back to factory conditions via the system recovery partition or your recovery CD/DVD (and most likely an external disk drive).
2. Hard disk diagnostics using the maker supplied diagnostics.
3. Hard disk diagnostics via a Linux Live CD/DVD.
4. A new hard disk.
5. A new netbook.

Acer Aspire One D250 boot problem

1. Go to BIOS and set the network card as last boot device
2. Check also if D2D is enabled (this is the backup OS partition)
3. Save and exit
4. Upon exit and before the Acer logo, press ALT + F10 ( ALT key and Function key 10) immediately and repeatedly
5. This will boot your recovery disk and install again your OS.

When the HDD had failed or was no longer bootable. In one case a new HDD, the other case we reinstalled the OS.

It should be interesting if this owner opted out of creating restore media or the needed USB DVDRW drive.

I'm just confused

this netbook is only a year ol, and was working just fine right before this happened. basically the earphone jack was crackling, so i restarted the computer. then it was running a bit slow, so i removed the battery. then the next few times it wouldn't load correctly. after about 15 tries i came to this error and it hasn't changed since. Nothing seems to work. Did I get a virus or something? I mean why would a newish HDD burn out so fast.

There are tests for that to confirm or deny that. Most require some USB DVDRW drive which we had to have to create restore media.

At only one year old, NOT YOUR PROBLEM since it has the one year warranty.

Hard drive swapout

I'm not sure if this changes anything, but I took my harddrive out and put it in an external hdd case. It is asking be to format drive E and G and isn't giving me access to what is in them. Does this mean anything?

Over in the CNET Storage Forum at the top is the Lost and Found sticky with suggestions on software to help recover files from a drive in such a condition. If those fail you can turn to places like http://www.drivesavers.com

As to your other issues, if this was in a shop I'd expect them to run a HDD test (there are far too many out there so pick a few) and then reinstall the OS.

i enabled the f12 boot menu in bios, but when i try to use it it only gives me the one option of booting with ethernet. does this mean anything? I don't have an external cd drive, so im trying to see if i can solve this without.

After trying everything and getting nothing I tried a regular oem windows disk , make sure you delete any partitions on the hard drive, and do a clean install and it solved the problem, it booted up and ran. Do not activate windows.
Shutdown and then use your acer disks and do a clean install.
