Router Help

I have Linksys Router, Model # WRT54G2 that I need to secure the wireless settings even though I use it wired. I was told I need to either secure my wireless settings so that no one would be able to get on or to put a password. Can someone please tell me how to do this? I went to Linksys website and could not find anything to tell me how to do this.

I appreciate you helping me with this.

If you don't use the wireless

If you don't use the wireless, look for a setting to simply turn the wireless antenna off. You can't break into something that isn't there.

How To Get Into My Router

I have never had to do anything with my router before. How would get I get into my router so that I could turn the wireless antenna off? For some strange reason my upload speed is not meeting the requirements for the job I work from home. Their help desk is who told me to secure my wireless settings or put on a password. They also told me to contact my ISP which I've done and they are coming somtime today between 8 and 5. Of course they won't give you a time frame so I thought I would try to do what I needed to do to my router while I wait for them.

Your router should have come with a user manual ...

and that manual goes into great detail regarding settings you can make.

To disable Wireless Mode you select from the Wireless > Basic Wireless
Settings screen, this displays the wireless mode (Mixed, G-
Only, or Disabled) used by the network (setting it to disabled looks interesting)

If you do not have your user manual you can download one here (chapter 3 is the area of interest to you at this point in time) -

To access your router's configurations you simply open your web browser (Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, etc) and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address.

A password request screen will appear. Leave the User name field blank. The first time you open the Web-based utility, use the default password admin. (You can set a new password from the Administration tab's Management screen.) Click OK to continue. (If you already set a username and password use those to access the configurations pages)
