Danno, In Addition To Larry's Suggestion...
...not only do I follow the procedures mentioned in the link he provided, but afterwards, I also UNCHECK the selection box in "msconfig" like this: Click on Start-Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotes). When the System Configuration Utility loads, click on the "Start Up" tab, then UNCHECK the box next to "Quick Time Task", click on "apply", then Ok. The computer will ask to be restarted. Do it.
I've seen a few computers where "deselecting" the system tray icon in Quicktime's "preferences" didn't completely stop the program from loading at start up after you ran the program to view a video clip. In addition, some versions don't have the option to deselect it at all in the "preferences" section.
