Printer Won't Work

For some reason my printer won't work. Here's some specifics:
It started a few days ago when I was trying to print an outline for my biology class. For some reason, the "ink" signal keeps flashing but both color and black and white cannot print, nor are they near empty.
Things I've tried already:
Switching USB Ports
Reinstalling drivers
Changing cables
Messing with the ink
Restarting the printer
Troubleshooting (no errors came out, but one potential one did - simply says the Printer might have a problem)

I read that these are the most common errors. None of these did it for me.
Anybody have any ideas?

Some printers (but not all) have an option to print a test page from the printer, without using the PC. If that fails, it needs repair (or buying a new one).

If your printer doesn't, all you can do is:
- try it on another PC
- follow the cleaning and troubleshooting procedures in the user manual
If those fail, see above.

Please tell more.... what happens when you print ?
-Have you choosen the correct printer at the print dialogue ?
- At the Control Panel > Printers & Faxes, have you set the printer as the default printer ?
- At printer's properties...have you "stop printing" or is that choice checked ?
- check power supply to the printer- is the power light on ? When you switch on the printer, does it makes clicking sounds when it self tests and adjust it print head ? When you open its cover [as when you change ink tanks...] does the print head comes out into position ?
