appropriate way to remove software from PC

Use Vista Service Pack 2
on HP desktop

I'm talking about just removing software program like a game or itunes, or just a normal program
Not talking about removing a virus or malware

I have googled this and find conflicting answers. Some say the add/remove function in the contriol panel of vista (o in Vitsa I think its called install/uninstall) some say use the "uninstaller function" of the program itself.

So what is the best way?

some say tho go to the start button-programs- then from that particular program you want to remove, use the uninstall function

If the uninstaller...

... comes with the program [not all do], use that. However, there is no harm to always use the Windows utility at the Control Panel [Add/Remove]. Sometimes, the program's own uninstaller[if available] does a better job of removing all the files and regisrty entries related to the program.
