Computer help forum: Restoration from original Hard Drive

"My Computer" only sees formatted partitions on a correctly formatted drive. Disk Management sees all that's on the drive. What does it say?

Many external USB IDE adapters are finicky things that require you to set the jumper on the IDE drive just so. Since there are all of THREE possible settings, why not try each one?

Cable Select is next then off to try data recovery AFTER you check disk management.

Remember we don't know much about your new machine. For example many of those "built" desktops have bad front ports. Workaround? Use the rear USB ports. Also many "built" machines have quick Windows installs or rather, they will not go get the drivers for us.

If you had installed the OS on that drive before and you are now trying to use it for an external drive, you might find that the installation of the OS had a GoBack feature installed. The GoBack feature makes changes to the MBR. You might be able to uninstall or disable the GoBack feature. I had to do this when changing PC's in order to use the old C drive as an external drive on my new machine.

Hi there same thing has happened to me The HDD I was using for my documents is not recognished in my rebuilt computer both as inside the machine and inside a HDD enclosure . Shows up in Disk management BUT NOT My Computer . Am currently running Seagates file recovery demo version to see weather I can recover my documents . It looks promising only downside is to recover the documents I will have to buy the full download version for $129.99 from Seagate via there website . Hence I came across your question as I was hoping someone else may have a cheaper alternative . Hope this helps , will post my outcome for others benifit Zoe
