My PC does not recognize DVD Player and CD Player - XP

I just noticed that my desktop (OS XP with Service Pack 3) is not recognizing my installed DVD player and CD player. When I go to device manager to check, here's what I get: For each device (JLMS DVD-ROM XJ-HD166 and Philips DVD+RW DVD8601) it says that "Windows cannot load device driver; may be corrupted or missing (code 39). It suggests troubleshooting, which tells me to uninstall the device and then reinstall -- it says most will be plug and play; if not, use CDs that came with the computer. Can't use CDs, it it okay to uninstall and reinstall?

I had not tried removing upper and lower filters -- did not even know they existed. I used the link you gave me and let Microsoft fix it for me. Thank you so very much for the help -- it's finally fixed! Beverly
