Static on screen

I have recently started having a problem with my computer in which the screen gets static (the best description I can think of) across it. It is in stripes/rectangles for the most part. When I scroll on a window or type, the static in that location temporarily goes away, but then comes back. It comes quickly but gradually. I have only noticed it when I have gotten on the computer after having it on hibernate or sleep. Closing the lid and reopening it does not fix it. Restarting it completely does fix it; however, I would like to be able to use hibernate and sleep without restarting the computer (which kind of defeats the point of those functions).

I have an HP notebook that is about 5 months old. It uses Windows 7, and I regularly run full Norton scans on it.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated!

It sounds like similar problems people have been having with some of the new ATI graphics cards; have you tried contacting the manufacturer about this problem, or searching their forums for similar situations/ solutions?
Have you been regularly installing driver updates from HP?

HP updates?

I haven't tried contacting HP, but I think I will.

I install updates regularly, but I think those are from Windows. Do I go to the HP site for their updates, or is there an automatic update thing on the computer?

There should be an update program already loaded into your computer.

(try this) Start-All Programs-HP- HP Update
