need help with sound...n sound system..it say

i have a windows xp, laptop and the sound is showing that it isn't in the system anymore. i have no idea how it got out of theht system, but it was here this morning. i need to know where to find a free download of SoundMax or another software capable of taking care of the sound problem i;m having. anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have any idea how many copies of XP and it's variations are around, and how many laptops there are? Hint, hint. Please read the red note above where you type your reply.

Since only you know the make and model of your laptop, have you been to that site and looked for sound drivers? Have you tried System Restore?
