Copying a Recovery Partition from a bad HDD to a new one

Hi there,
I have an HP laptop with a bad HDD. I have a Recovery Partition on the old HDD, but I did not make recovery disks to use on a new HDD (I know, that was stupid). At least I backed up my files.
I would like to copy the files from the old HDD to a new HDD so that I can recover the original Vista OS and apps that came preinstalled. I have a desktop that I can use, a Blacx dock, and a new SATA HDD.
Do I need to clone the old HDD using an Acronis program or something?
Any advice would be very appreciated.
Thanks!
