Stopping Programs From Starting Each Time I Log On.

Hello and thank you for reading my post, I appreciate your time.
I am wanting to know if it is possible to force programs to stop starting up in the background every time I log into windows WITHOUT disabling the service in Windows Services.
Of course I am well aware of the MSCONFIG method but for example here:
* I want COUNTERSPY Anti-Spyware to NOT start up each time I log into windows so I go to MSCONFIG and uncheck the box and also disable automatic start in the programs options ....
However, when I go into the task manager COUNTERSPY has 3 different processes running.
I have tried going into Widnows Services and changing the program from Automatic to Manual and Disable ... when I chose Manual I have to go and change it to Automatic just to get the program to run again or each time I attempt to run the program while it is on Manual it tries to reinstall itself.
So, if I uncheck the MSCONFIG box does that mean it still isn't starting up even though the processes are running?
Just to add, this is not limited to Counterspy this is the same situation for all of my programs on my computer.
My specs are as followed:
Windows 7 x64 Home Premium (Retail)
8GB memory
800GB Hard Drive
Gateway LX6810-01
Thank you so much and sorry if this is confusing to you.
