Slow burning... help please?

Hi
I have a DVD urner which for some time burned away merrily a DVDR in about 5mins or less at 16 times. For a considerable length of time now it wont burn at this speed though shows on Nero that its burning at 16X.. it's probably bunring at around 2 times.. very very sluggish...

I'm suspecting some burning software has been added when I've installed something else and maybe changed some registry settings or whatever..

Any tips on sorting this? obvious things aside like uninstall Nero and reinstall, I have also other burning programs but they have not clashed before... is there something obvious someone may know about?

1. The drive has "aged."
2. The media is from some 100 piece cake package or "generic."
3. Nero has flipped into some evaluation mode. It's not free and some feel it should be. Your story is light. Fix? Try other titles like CDBURNERXP, Imgburn.
