Computer help forum: Can't download adobe flash player--Please Help

I would try just once more using the procedure below;

1] Go to http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html, download Adobe's Flash Uninstaller. Make sure you know where the file is downloaded to, (I download all files to my Desktop). Close down all browser windows and run the uninstaller. Let it finish it's process.

2] Reboot, (restart), the computer. This allows the system to remove any temporary files and update the registry.

3] Go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/, download to your download location, close down the browser window, and run the installer.

Does that solve the problem?

Please try the steps below to uninstall, then reinstall the newest version of Flash Player:

Try using the newest Flash Player 10.0.32.18 version.

First, uninstall Flash by using the Flash Uninstaller at the link below..

After that's done, then download the manual Flash player installer from the link below.. Download it to your desktop and Run it to install the newest Flash for Internet Explorer.

Once that's done, if you're also using Firefox, visit the site below while in Firefox, then download and run the Flash plugin installer

Then download and install the manual Shockwave installer from the link below.. As above, be sure to uninstall the previous version of Shockwave using the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs section.

if you can't create System Restore points then that is a common effect of malware.

I would follow Grif's advice in his post below to download and install Malwarebytes' Antimalware and SUPERAntispyware, and scan with them both

That advice is aimed at users who cannot download and/or install on their own systems because malware is preventing it, but you could try it on your own system first.

Hi Linda. It's not clear from your post whether you download, installed, updated and scanned with, those anti-malware scanners that Grif suggested in the link I gave.

If you did do all that, how did the scans go? Did they find any malware?

If you are using CA Security and it's Personal Firewall, that might be a clue to the problem.

May be the firewall is blocking Adobe Flash Player's access to the internet. It would be unusual, because the Flash Player would be a browser plugin, but I have heard that some firewalls will block plugins, as well as normal applications.

I don't use CA Security so I can't really help you check, but have a look at the advice in the link below. It may help you check the firewall settings;

Although Flash and Java aren't the same, at times, the sites require both to be working correctly. Please try the steps below to update your computer's Java setup:

Click on the link to Sun's Java below, then scroll down and click on the ''Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)-JRE 6 Update 16'' download button. Follow the prompts, select the Windows platform and the "Language", accept the license agreement, then download the full ''Windows OFFLINE Installation'' file to your desktop,(about 15 MB), scan it with your antivirus (just to be sure it's clean). Once that's done, if you've already got a Sun Java version on the computer, open the Control Panel, double click on the ''Add/Remove Programs'' section, then uninstall all previous versions of the J2SE Java listed there. Once that's done, then install Java JRE 6u16 from the downloaded installer.

As to the number of Microsoft Service Packs on your computer, if you're looking in the "Add/Remove Programs" section, it depends on how many Microsoft products you have installed.. There will be service packs for Windows XP, Microsoft Office, NET Framework (if you have it installed), and others.. Primarily, when it comes to Microsoft products, since only the latest Service Pack will show in the Add/Remove Programs section, leave the Microsoft Service Packs items alone..

Besides, at this point, you should be sticking to the Java related installations.. You only need the most current, so uninstall any of the previous Java listings such as "Java 5(TM) Update 15", etc.

If you uninstalled all the older Java versions, THEN installed the new Java correctly, YES, you WILL be able to see Java listed in the Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs section... BUT...there should be only ONE listed there and it should say: "Java (TM)6 Update 16".

As to creating a System Restore point, click on Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore. When that opens select "Create a restore point", then click on "Next" and follow the prompts to create it.

Checking about 10 Windows XP SP3 comps here show it in ALL of them.. Please check again and make sure you have UNCHECKED the option to "Hide extensions for known file types" in "Tools-Folder Options-View tab" from Windows Explorer. .. And if it's still not there, then find it and extract it from the i386 folder of your Windows XP disc.

I'm sorry here, but it seems as though you're a little too new at this and as such, can't follow simple instructions to simply visit the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs section and uninstall unneeded Java listings.. As such, I'll suggest you contact a friend or family member who has computer experience, then let them follow the instructions in this thread....Or... Maybe take it to a local computer repair shop.
